Josh Turner, Phil Vassar to perform at Crawford County Fair

MEADVILLE -- A country hit-maker and a bunch of local bands have been signed to entertain the masses at the 2010 Crawford County Fair.
Fair Board members announced Thursday that country singer Josh Turner will headline an Aug. 25 concert on the West Mead Township fairgrounds main stage during the 65th edition of the county fair.
The concert, which begins at 7:30 p.m., will also feature a performance by country singer Phil Vassar. Tickets for the concert are $30 for racetrack seating and $25 for grandstand seating. They go on sale April 19 at 10 a.m. by phone or online, and will be available for purchase at the Crawford County Courthouse on April 20 at 10 a.m.

Named by People magazine as one of country's hottest stars, Turner has produced hits that include "Would You Go With Me," "Your Man," "Firecracker," "Me and God" and "Long Black Train." His new CD, "Haywire," was released in February and features the single, "Why Don't We Just Dance."

The Fair Board also voted Thursday to accept a bid by local music promoter Lisa Bower to put on a local music concert featuring a variety of area acts during the fair, which runs Aug. 21-28. The show will be held Aug. 23, beginning midafternoon and running into the evening. Tickets for that show will be $10.

Fair officials plan a third concert for Aug. 26, featuring a "little more high-powered act," fair Treasurer Fred Wagner said Thursday. That concert is expected to be announced by the end of the month.

The concert announcements Thursday signaled a late start in setting up the fair's musical lineup.

The 2010 fair will also feature tractor pulls Aug. 21 and 27, a demolition derby Aug. 28, the second annual Crawford County Fair Queen pageant on Aug. 22 and a thrill show, featuring motorcycles and cars, on Aug. 24.
